Ruptured Budgie Rally
The Moto Guzzi Club of Qld invited motorcyclists to join them at Mingoola in a picturesque valley by a "billabong" as Jeff so aptly put it. ( At least he was here this year & not in a Tenterfield motel I hear)
. A fine array of Italian Motorcycles was on hand but numbers were nearly out classed by the fine display & attendance of the Bavarian Marque.
En route we stayed at the Killarney Pub which is somewhat of a "must visit" as Wild Geese have been warmly welcomed there on at least three occasion in the past few months. Eight of us o/n there before heading out to ride thru the hills to Urbenville to Tenterfield on Saturday morning. (Seven actually as 1 just had to visit the Lavender Farm on the way). Craig's R65R tired early & required first aid to continue on which it did despite the illness of leaking forks & rear shocks. Well done Craig to pull her thru.
Arriving at Mingoola we saw good camping spots on the grass by the rivers edge which were well populated by those Guzzi riders who had arrived the day before, leaving our intrepid little band to thread their way thru the boulder fields to set up camp in a cactus patch.
At night we set our small fire which was in stark contrast to the towering inferno across the creek, but our more intimate circle was warming, engaging & most enjoyable. (If I hear one more comment about Spoons...!)
Sunday morning saw that Kev had applied a new lubricant to his seat, Ice I think they call it
The ride home via Stanthorpe, Warrick up to Gatton to Esk, was sprightly. Brekkie at the Caltex (Wockies regular stop) was surprisingly good for a servo if you can excuse the lack of a real coffee machine (Sorry JAG). Another memorable ride and thanks to Wockie for talking us into it & we look forward to next year when the Ruptured Budgie is on again at Mingoola & we head off to Cania Gorge.
(It's a loose plan)
1 Boonah Line Up. 2 Dr Craig's 65 Save. 3 Camping @ Fire. 4 Muz Sets Up. 5 JAG At The Budgie 09. 6 Ice Man Kev.
