Overlanders To Cania Gorge
Although not a Wild Geese Club event, the story is still worth telling.
Mac and myself met at Rob Turton's place at 6.30am and after registration and introductions, nine riders set off. The cast included 4 BMW's, 2 KTM's, 2 Hondas, 1 Yamaha and 1 support vehicle.
Our first fuel stop was at Tiaro although I don't know how we got there. Most of the journey was through State forest and private properties. Some of this was pretty tight and not suited to a novice on a 1200 GS.
This theme continued for the rest of the day and included a heavy fall which dented my enthusiasm. We got into Cania Gorge after 7pm, the last 1 1/2 hours riding an old stock route in the dark. Scary, what am I doing here?
Around the fire, everyone got to know each other and tell a few lubricated long stories. Good company.
After breakfast and a photo shoot the return was a different route. This was mainly fast forest trails. Some of these guys are very quick!
About mid morning we had our first casualty with the Yamaha pitching its rider. The support vehicle came to the rescue and it was onto the trailer for wrecked bike and into the vehicle for the rider.
Lunch was at Mundubbera but again I've got no idea how we got there. All that concerned me was the 50 mtrs of rocks, gravel and dust immediately in front of me.
More of the same after lunch and again a late finish. The ride was well organised and led and something that couldn't be undertaken without the backup and support of Overlanders.
