Ossie does Inskip!

The regular Thursday ride from Eumundi was only attended by two riders, Col (BMW R1200RT) & Ozzie (Yamaha FJR1300). This, however, was not to spoil our day. We set off and swept up the Eumundi Range Road to Cooroy and then around the back way to Black Mountain Range Road and onto the Bruce Highway for a few clicks until we turned out to the west along Skyring Creek Rd towards Tuchekoi and the Mary Valley Road for a turn to the north. Magnificent weather and a balmy sun made for a very sleepy ride (never a moment over the limit!) and soon we slipped through Gympie and out onto the Rainbow Beach Road which would be a wonderful road if the speed limit were 150!

After a calm, no drama run through to Rainbow Beach, we stopped for a well earned munch and cuppa and met up with a pair of Kiwis who had rented a pair of trail bikes from Dave at Aussiebiker and were preparing to assault the beach for the first time on the return trip to Noosa. They were from Christchurch and one said he had rang home to hear that his pride & joy Triumph was under a pile of rubbish in the garage after the recent aftershocks there. Something to go home too! Back on the bikes and we decided to see where the Inskip Point Road went to (Inskip Point maybe?) Another good road until we arrived at the end where the BIG sign said "No access for two wheel drive vehicles." I looked at Ossie and said "It doesn't say anything about one wheel drive vehicles." Having said that we set off on the road to the Inskip ferry to Fraser Island (Sand, sand and more sand!) Now if you have never tried to ride a very large touring bike in sand before, I suggest you let the air out of your front tyre and try riding anywhere at all! Ossie led the way and not more than half a kilometre along this super highway his front wheel decided that it didn't want to play anymore and laid down on its side. With all of the various mechanical connections on the bike being what they are, soon after, Ossie was laying down in the sand too. Much laughter and a photo later, Ossie was vertical again just in time to miss the traffic from Fraser Island coming ashore.

Yes, at this point we decided to give Fraser Island a miss this time.

We then slipped back along the road towards Gympie and turned left down Kin Kin Rd, which is a really great run through some magnificent bike corners until it hits the gravel for a few klms to drop down the range into the Wolvi valley. No problems there except for the ten metre deep potholes at the start and finish of the dirt section. Argh! Finished off with that lovely run through the Kin Kin hills and home again. All in all, very nice indeed.

Ah Ozzie, wanna buy a KTM? :rolleyes:rolleyes :rolleyes:rolleyes
