The Wild Geese

Flight Of The Bumble Goose

The coffee scene at 'The C@fe' Birtwell street on Sunday mornings is both enjoyable and informative. Sunday the 2nd April was no exception with so many bikes lined up along the pavement that would make many motorcycle dealerships proud. It was nice to note that Coolum Council have even provided us with a curb extension to protect our toys whilst parked. The C@fe seem pleased with our custom and I believe even the locals come to listen to our friendly banter prior to departures.

However, this week there was a definite split in the ranks and sadly the 'tar tops' being greatly outnumbered (but never outgunned) by the 'chook chasers' as Gizmo gathered his many goslings for some serious off road stuff. I believe getting down and dirty were some of the terms used and by his comprehensive report I note that this was true for many of his flock. A summary of Steve's report will show: LOST: two riders. DISMOUNTS/FALLS: three riders. DESERTIONS: five riders. COLLISIONS: one new Goose takes out two others! I also wonder if it is environmentally correct to wash off your dirty, cow pat encrusted, oily bikes in natural streams and rivers.

By contrast the three 'Tar Tops' Bumble Goose K1200S, Cosmic Goose R1100S and Jag Goose R1150R rode quietly and legally (having learned that the fuzz would be along the range), through the foothills along empty roads and routes first shown to the flock by Red Rob many rides ago. Plenty of twisties to scrub off some sidewall rubber and give riding boots street cred scars. Never a car or camera in sight the whole route and a delightful cafe stop in Buderim town before heading home. A great ride, good company and whilst seldom at 90 degrees none ventured below 40 degrees from horizontal. (LOST: none DISMOUNTS/FALLS: none DESERTIONS: none COLLISIONS: none).

To add to Bumble Goose's commentary !! Yes it was a good ride with lots of "within the law action". Having said that it wasn't by any means a slow ride. Fast in the right places!! To substantiate this, I went for a ride up to them there hills as we do from time to time with another four people (firies) who had "cruisers". I ended up being ride leader mainly because no one else wanted to so away we went. I took it nice and steady thinking that these dudes wouldn't want to race or go too quick. They were very slow or at least rode well within the speed limit. What it brought home to me is that we the "Geese" do travel at a great rate of knots when we flock together. Riding fast is exilerating but so also is smelling the smells and seeing the sights and you can't do it all if you're going too quick!! So maybe we should ride a little slower (speed limit + 10%) and longer rather than faster and shorter.
Look forward to the next two wheeled adventure.
